In February and March, the band went on a co-headlining tour with We the Kings, with support from The Downtown Fiction and Anarbor. In January 2012 the band filmed a music video for "Stay" in Ohio. In October and November, the band went on The Noise Tour with support from We Are the In Crowd, There for Tomorrow, You Me at Six, The Make and Sparks the Rescue.
On October 7, a music video was released for "Oh Well, Oh Well", which was directed by Thunder Down Country. On October 3, Mayday Parade was made available for streaming, and was released a day later through ILG. Short clips of every song on the album were made available for steaming on September 22. On September 8, "When You See My Friends" was made available for streaming via MTV, and was released as a single a day later. "Oh Well, Oh Well" was released as a single on August 1. "Oh Well, Oh Well" was made available for streaming via Alternative Press on July 27. In July and August, the band supported All Time Low on their North America tour. On JMayday Parade was announced for release and the track listing was revealed. The group brought in a string section for certain tracks. Recording took place at Vinatage Song Studio in Alpharetta, Georgia and at Tree Sound Studios in Norcross, Georgia. They began recording with Zack Odom and Kenneth Mount on Februand the record was reportedly completed " way," not "someone else's way," on April 18. "Stay" is about pain experienced when losing a loved one. For this album, the band wrote all of the material. The album was written by the band during early 2011 at a beach house in Panacea, Florida. Brooks pointed out that it wasn't "the best representation. In retrospect, Sanders said the band simply recorded songs that they "didn't care about as much or love as much". Vocalist Derek Sanders later recalled that "there was a lot of outside influence" from Atlantic that resulted in "a lot of co-writes". While the band attempted to follow this direction, they were weighed down by "so much overbearing pressure", according to guitarist Brooks Betts.
While working on their major label debut, Anywhere but Here (2009), Atlantic expected the band to make a pop album. We will see how things go.In March 2009 it was announced Mayday Parade had signed to Atlantic. I can’t imagine a summer without a Warped Tour. It’s such a huge part of our career and so we’re super grateful to be a part of it. We had only been a band for 6 months at that point and we sold a bunch of EPs and that’s really what gave us momentum. One of the first things we did when we recorded our first EP was follow the tour in 2006. On the other hand, it’s coming up real soon and then before we know it, it will be over and done with. Warped Tour has always been one of my favourite things to do. On the one hand I’m super excited about it.
WHAT DOES MAYDAY PARADE STAY MEAN HOW TO
It’s hard to really know how to feel about it all. Most people won’t know the story of the hospital but I think it’s still a cool visual that brings up these different ideas for different people.ĪSIDE FROM THE ALBUM, YOU ARE ALSO JUMPING ON THIS SUMMER’S WARPED TOUR FOR THE VERY LAST TIME. That was the idea from the start and then we thought it would make an awesome album title. It’s the fact you can’t get your childhood back. There’s the song on the record that’s actually called ‘Sunnyland’ and one of the lyrics is ‘I left something important back in Sunnyland, I know that it’s something I’ll never find’. It was pulled down maybe 10 years ago but it really was one of the coolest things about Tallahassee. It was super creepy inside and had some of the old beds. This old five-story white hospital that was overgrown with weeds and vines. You could sneak in and it was such a cool place. It’s just right down the street from my house. There was an abandoned children’s hospital in Tallahassee in the early 1980’s. There actually used to be a physical place called ‘Sunnyland’. SO WHAT DOES ‘SUNNYLAND’ ACTUALLY MEAN TO YOU BOTH AS A TITLE AND ALSO AN IDEA?įor me, a lot of what ‘Sunnyland’ represents is childhood and growing up. We caught up with Mayday Parade frontman Derek Sanders recently to find out more about 'Sunnyland'.
'Sunnyland' is set for release June 15 through Pure Noise Records. It may only have been a month since Mayday Parade announced the details of their upcoming album 'Sunnyland', but they're wasting no time in getting us excited for it's release later this month.
